The Shape of Time Residency: Art, Deep Time & Environmental Change
The Shape of Time Residency, led by Studio Verde, explores the intersection of art, geology, and environmental change through an immersive engagement with the Dunarobba Fossil Forest in Umbria, Italy. This rare site, home to 3-million-year-old fossilized trees, offers a powerful lens through which to examine deep time, memory, and the shifting landscapes of the past, present, and future.
Artists in residence respond to the fossil forest as a living archive, tracing the layers of history embedded in its petrified remains while reflecting on contemporary ecological crises. Through sculpture, photography, writing, and sound, the residency investigates themes of transformation, resilience, and the ways landscapes bear witness to time.
The project invites us to consider our place within planetary history, asking: What will remain of our present world in the far future? What stories do landscapes hold, and how do they shape the way we understand time itself?
