WORK IN PROGRESS

A non-fiction, “Western film" crossed by El Dorado, la cumbia and magic realism immersed in the Peruvian Amazon. An ongoing audiovisual research initiated in the Beyond Conservation AiR, a program exploring ways in which we can rethink and rebuild our relationship with the natural world, and question social, economic and political issues that all tie into the web of the climate crisis.
What you find here is a small collection of work in progress. As harvesting, I collect thoughts, images and texts (mine and from others) as if they were plants, greens and grains…The harvest can take various seasons and only when I have all the ingredients do I start thinking about the recipe, what to cook and how to share it.
Throughout this time I rely on my notebook and camera, tools that I use to register whatever happens during the period of harvest. This process is always site-responsive, very flexible and free to include anything that crosses through because, at some point, it will remain if it is interesting for the story.
Someone once referred to my way of doing it as ‘humming’ and that is fine to me.
I am mostly interested in creating images and establishing mental connections between them. I believe we usually relate through emotions more than facts, and this is what movies are about. A campfire where to gather around and share magical stories.
Images were collected from the forest, the streets, the internet and from the people around. Reflections on documentary and fiction, kids’ drawings, magic realism and western movies. Cumbia, machetes and a monster sticker. These are the days of lasers in the jungle...
